Update to Uniform Policy

Dear Parents/Carers

We’d like to express our appreciation for your continued support in ensuring students come to school dressed in proper uniform. It’s been fantastic to see the vast majority of students taking pride in their appearance and adhering to the dress code. This consistent effort fosters a sense of community and sets a standard of professionalism that prepares students for future academic and professional settings. We believe these high expectations contribute to a positive learning environment, and we thank you for partnering with us to achieve this.

Our policy outlines that students should maintain a neat and professional appearance. This includes avoiding:

  • Extreme hair colours: This encompasses unnatural shades such as bright blue, green, pink, etc.
  • Skin fading: This refers to haircuts below a grade 1.
  • Extreme haircuts: This includes styles that are disruptive or considered too short/long for a school setting.
  • Excessive hair accessories: While simple hair clips are acceptable, elaborate or distracting accessories are discouraged.

We kindly request that you discuss this policy with your child, particularly regarding adding beads to braids and coloured extensions.  While braids are acceptable, they should be a natural hair colour and not considered excessive or distracting.

Over the upcoming Easter break, students have the opportunity to ensure their appearance complies with the school policy. After the break, any student arriving with non-compliant hair, or accessories will be directed to a designated internal engagement room for a full day. This will be followed by a 60-minute detention.

We understand that personal expression is important, and we encourage students to express themselves in other ways, such as through their academic achievements, extracurricular activities, or appropriate clothing choices outside of school.

The school uniform policy is available on our website for your reference  https://stroodacademy.org.uk/.  Should you have any questions or require clarification, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Thank you for your continued cooperation in maintaining a positive learning environment for all students.

Yours faithfully

Miss J Lindsay | Vice Principal
