Year 12 University of Kent Visit

Dear Parents/Carers

As a sixth form we work closely with the local universities to ensure we can provide opportunities for our students both in school and at the university. On Wednesday 15th May, the University of Kent has invited 40 of our students in for a campus day to learn about university life and to spend some time on campus talking to the university ambassadors; you can view the itinerary here.

Places for this trip are limited to 40, so early sign up will make it more likely a place is secured; this can be done by completing this form

We will travel to and from the campus, which is in Canterbury, by train. Therefore, we ask all students to be at Rochester train station by 7:30am to get the 7:53am train to Canterbury East. From there we will walk to the campus (approximately 50 minutes), giving us enough time to buy a coffee along the way. Kent university has offered to provide lunch (they can choose a meal deal from one of the establishments) or they can bring their own packed lunch. Alternatively, there is a Co-Op on site if students wish to purchase something.

The visit ends at 2:30pm. We will then walk back to Canterbury East where I will plan to get the 3:45pm train to Rochester; however, if you are happy for your child to remain in Canterbury to look at the sites and shops, and to then make their own way back on the train, please indicate that on the sign up form.

The train ticket for this journey is approximately £18.20; however, if your child has a railcard it could be less.

I hope you agree this is an excellent opportunity for your child to get an insight into university. If you have any questions please email victoria.hancock@stroodacademy.org

Yours faithfully

Ms V Hancock | Head of Sixth Form, Assistant Principal
