Duke Of Edinburgh (DofE) Bronze Award Letter

Dear Parents/Carers

Duke Of Edinburgh (DofE) Bronze Award

I am writing to inform you that your child has taken an interest in the exciting opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award 2024. The Award is highly respected by colleges, universities and employers and demonstrates a young person’s commitment, determination, compassion and team-working skills.

Participants set their own challenges, choose their own programme of activities and make new friendships. Most importantly, students have an enormous amount of fun and get the chance to take up new activities that they might not do otherwise, including planning and completing a two-day walking and camping expedition.

The DofE Bronze Award is broken down into 4 sections and students must complete each section to gain the award:

  • Volunteering – make a positive difference to someone else’s life
  • Physical – do something that helps you improve your personal fitness
  • Skill – learn something new
  • Expedition – a two day, one night camping expedition in a location to be decided based on the participant group size and risk assessment.

For information on each of the sections, ideas and lists of examples of activities which are valid, visit https://www.dofe.org/

What happens next: All students in Year 9 will be sent information about the Duke of Edinburgh including a Loom recording, following this there will be scheduled meetings with myself. Your child must then complete an application identifying as much as possible what activities they can complete for Volunteering, Physical and Skill.

I would like to ask you to pay the cost of £25.50. This can be paid via ParentPay under ‘Duke of Edinburgh’. The deadline for payment is 30th January 2024. If there are any issues please email me in advance. Payment covers a registration fee for DofE, personal online e-DofE account as well as a certificate and badge upon completion. The expedition can only be signed up for once the other sections are near completion. The Expedition will take place towards the end of the academic year (tbc). Dates will be confirmed closer to the time. If for some reason your child cannot make the expedition dates, whether for their own reasons or section completion, they can still complete the award by taking part in next year’s expedition.
