Structured Dismissal at Strood Academy

Dear Parents/Carers

Following recent feedback received through our pupil survey, we are pleased to announce a revised dismissal process.

We have implemented this in stages to support our pupils and staff.

Stage 1: From Monday 4th March our teachers are now walking our pupils out of the academy building, through our playgrounds and MUGA area and towards the front of the academy. At this stage the Senior Leadership Team takes on the further responsibilities of supervising our pupils outside of the school entrance and surrounding areas. We ask pupils to collect belongings from lockers on the way to their final lesson of the day so they can leave with their teacher and class at 3:20pm. For any pupils attending an after school club, intervention session or a detention they can progress straight to the relevant location.

The initial impact has enabled our pupils to leave calmly, sensibly and represent our academy in a positive manner. We thank our teachers for going the extra mile here.

Stage 2: From Monday 18th March we are launching stage 2. This includes a differentiated dismissal for Key Stage 3 (Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9) and then Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 (Year 10, Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13). Key Stage 3 pupils will be dismissed first, with their teachers walking the route highlighted above followed by our Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 pupils. From further feedback this will ease the transition process and further ensure a smooth and calm exit from the academy. Again, should pupils be attending an after school club, intervention session or detention they can progress straight to the relevant location.

An important note is that pupils will not be leaving the school any earlier than the 3:20 dismissal time (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) and 2:00 dismissal time on a Wednesday.

These changes will not impact pick up times or have implications for those pupils who travel by public transport.

Should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully
Mr Jon Richardson | Principal
