KS3: MYP Art, Design & Technology and Food Technology

Intent

The intent of our curriculum is to create an environment of creativity and knowledge based learning that will help our students towards their future creative pathways. With our wide range of students we take pride in understanding and meeting the needs of our students through the subjects of Art, Design and Technology. Our curriculum is broad and students will find themselves applying a range of skills in a variety of different contexts. We firmly believe exposing the students to as many disciplines as possible is an effective way of inspiring them and creating pride in their work.

At the start of the journey students are taught the concepts and ideology behind MYP and will study a variety of different subjects gaining skills and knowledge to put them in a secure and solid environment for the remainder of the year. The MYP in the ADT department is unique as we offer two MYP subjects and three very distinctly different projects. Our students can further their knowledge and skills when they choose their options in KS4. We take pride in ensuring there is a broad approach for as long as possible so students are well informed when making their choices at the end of KS3.

Curriculum Journey

The journey of our curriculum allows our pupils to develop their creative and problem solving skills. Students will develop their skills further moving into KS4 allowing for outcomes that are highly developed and showcasing skills that increase in difficulty. Students will then be able to build upon knowledge through repetition and deliberate practice. This in turn will impact and improve their ability to perform in exam conditions and to articulate theoretical and practical matters of the course. Students will be able to develop their understandings of topics and designers which will allow them to produce creative designs and to make a range of different prototypes makettes/studies.  This learning will consolidate their knowledge ino creating and developing an appropriate final piece/dish.
