KS5: IB Global Politics

Intent

The Diploma Programme global politics course engages students with key political concepts and contemporary political issues in a variety of contexts and through a variety of approaches. The following diagram illustrates the elements of the course. Through teaching and learning in the subject, students develop a holistic and nuanced understanding of global politics and acquire the skills needed to analyse, evaluate and act on political issues they encounter inside and outside of the classroom.

Curriculum Journey

In Year 12 the students will study the core unit of Power, Sovereignty and International Relations that will provide them with key knowledge in order to study in depth Unit 2 Human Rights and prepare them for the Engagement Activity and the HL Extension tasks at the end of Year 1 and start of Year 2. As the students begin Year 13 they will continue to build on their knowledge and apply this to the Engagement Activity and the second HL extension task before studying units covering Peace and Conflict and Development which will prepare them for and lead into their final assessments.
