Dear Parent/Carer,
We are excited to inform you that your child will be taking part in a geography field trip to Reculver on either Monday 14th July, Tuesday 15th July or Wednesday 16th July. Students will be advised of their allocated date via google classroom.
The aim of this trip is to investigate the effectiveness of the coastal management strategies on the north coast of Kent. This will be achieved through primary data collection, including environmental quality surveys and beach and Groyne profiles. Students will be working in small groups, within teacher supervision. Staff will divide the group once registered. Students will be monitored throughout the day and escorted via the footpath or promenade on the beach front when travelling between sites. Please be aware that the terrain will be uneven and sensible footwear is required.
The field trip will provide invaluable hands-on experience to support the students’ studies and is contributing to 15% of their final GCSE grade, this is why attendance is compulsory for all and will contribute towards their academy attendance.
Key Information:
- Date: According to groupings – The geography staff will notify their groups on the Google Classroom.
- Meeting Point: School – normal arrival time.
- Leave site: at 09.30am
- Return: Students will return at the end of the school day.
- Transport: Academy minibuses
- What to bring:
- A camera phone for data collection. (shared in your team is fine)
- A packed lunch and/or money for an ice cream (Please note free school meals will be provided for. Staff will collect these before leaving the school site)
- Sun cream and a hat, plus plenty of water.
- Attire: Academy PE Kit – If students do not wear the correct PE kit, a spare kit will be provided. If students refuse to wear the spare kit they will be unable to attend the Fieldwork and will result in a day in IER.
- Comfortable walking shoes for the day – trainers are accepted but please be aware that they may get dirty or wet.
This field trip will be an excellent opportunity for students to engage directly with the data collection process and gain insight into real-world geography. Please ensure they are well-prepared for any changes in weather.
