Extreme Weather

Strood Academy Letter image

Dear Parents and Carers,

I would like to inform you regarding the increased temperatures that are forecasted for Monday 30th June and Tuesday 1st July. Our primary concern during this time is the health and wellbeing of our pupils and staff, and I want to assure you that we are taking careful and proportionate steps to support everyone in our school community.

As previously communicated, pupils are not required to wear blazers for the remainder of Module 6. While we appreciate that many pupils have chosen to continue wearing their blazers alongside the optional Strood V neck jumper, we kindly request that both blazers and jumpers be left at home during the aforementioned days. This adjustment will help ensure that pupils remain comfortable and cool throughout the school day.

Furthermore, to enhance comfort for our students, we encourage that ties be removed and top buttons of shirts be undone to facilitate increased comfort. We understand that comfort is key during such warm weather, and we are committed to making necessary adjustments to support our pupils.

We ask that you ensure your child applies sun cream before leaving for school. If your child wishes to reapply sun cream during the day, please provide them with a suitable supply.

It is equally important for each pupil to have a re-usable water bottle with them. Staying hydrated is crucial, especially in warmer weather. We are pleased to have various water stations available across the academy, including in our Restaurant area, where pupils can conveniently refill their bottles throughout the day.

During break time and lunch time there are many covered areas outside that students can utilise to stay out of direct sunlight, fostering a more comfortable environment for their social interactions. Alternatively, pupils may choose to remain on the ground floor of the academy, where they can enjoy their unstructured time in a cooler setting. We also encourage pupils to wear a sun hat.

In an ongoing effort to maintain a conducive learning environment, we will be closely monitoring classroom temperatures. Should the need arise, we will re-room classes to ensure that our students can continue to learn effectively while remaining comfortable.

Please note that these arrangements will be in place for both Monday 30th June and Tuesday 1st July, unless further communication is necessary based on the weather conditions.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation in these matters. Should you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Jon Richardson | Principal
