Why study Level 3 Health and Social Care?
During your studies you will learn about the development of humans across the lifespan.
It will help you understand the set up of the care sector, understand the importance of person-centred care and learn the importance of communicating effectively within a professional setting.
What will I study during the course duration?
The level 3 qualification is a mixture of biology, psychology, sociology as well as providing learners with an understanding of the health care sector. You will study the Physical, Intellectual, Emotional and Social developments of the Human lifespan.
How will I be assessed?
The BTEC Extended Certificate enables students to learn about the health and social care sector, including potential job roles and the requirements of them. There is a mixture of coursework and exams that encourage students to show their knowledge through both essay writing and traditional exams.
Year 12:
- Unit 1- Human Lifespan Development (Exam)
Investigating the key changes that happen through Physical, Intellectual, Emotional and Social Development through the entire human lifespan. - Unit 5- Meeting individual care and support needs (Coursework)
Students will explore the principles and practicalities that underpin meeting individuals’ care and support needs, which are the foundation of all the care disciplines.
Year 13:
- Unit 2- Working in Health and Social Care (Exam)
Students will investigate specific roles within the health and social care sector and the general principles of working in the sector. - The final coursework unit of year 13 will be selected towards the end of year 12, taking student voices into account. Options include:
Unit 10 Sociological Perspectives, Unit 11 Psychological Perspectives, Unit 12 Supporting Individuals with Additional Needs , Unit 14 – Physiological disorders and their care.
Career opportunities and Future study
Completion of this course can put you on the pathway to become a nurse, social worker, teacher, occupational therapist, police officer or you could go on to study for a degree in psychology, social sciences, childhood studies or health studies.
