Dear Parent/Carer

RE: Year 9- Understanding Wellbeing – Medway School Health and Wellbeing Survey

Please see the information below from Medway Council’s Public Health Team-

Medway Council’s Public Health Team is responsible for providing a range of preventative and early intervention services. Our work includes supporting children and families to maintain a healthy weight, advice on stopping smoking and keeping active. We also support schools to promote and develop the health and wellbeing of their students through our PSHE (personal, social, health and economic education) lesson plans. These cover a range of subjects including relationships and sex education (RSE), online safety, emotional wellbeing, bullying and preventing radicalisation. We also offer parent workshops, a peer ambassador scheme and teacher training.

To continually improve the services, resources and support we provide; we need to understand the issues that our young people are facing and how services are used and perceived. One of the ways we can do that is by working with young people directly.

Our children and young people can be faced with a number of strong and difficult emotions throughout their childhood and into adolescence. These feelings may range from exam stress to caring responsibilities and bullying – as well as new challenges that they may be dealing with such as uncertainty about the future to changes in routines and home life. Together with Strood Academy and you, their parents and carers, we want to identify the issues that are affecting our young people most greatly not just now but throughout their time in school.

Your child will be taking part in the School Health and Wellbeing Survey on Wednesday 12th/ Thursday 13th March on their chromebooks. The survey will be anonymous.

We have prepared a lesson plan which is in line with guidance from the PSHE Association to ensure that:

  • pupils fully understand the benefits of taking part in the survey
  • pupils understand what wellbeing is
  • pupils can identify some of the ways for maintaining wellbeing when things become
  • difficult or overwhelming
  • students are provided with an opportunity to ask questions both before and after
  • completing the survey
  • they can discuss any issues if necessary
  • students understand who the points of contact are at school if they are worried about
  • something
  • and can participate in the survey within a safe and secure environment

Naturally, you may have some questions about the survey, which you can direct to
