Year 7 Homework Policy

Dear Parents/Carers,
RE: Homework Policy Launch for Year 7
I am writing to share some news regarding our updated homework policy.
We have carefully reviewed our homework policy to ensure it aligns with our shared goals of academic excellence and the holistic development of every child at Strood Academy. We have also responded to feedback from a number of parents/ guardians who have requested a clearer homework policy in order to support their children.
From Monday 16th September 2024 all students in Year 7 will be set 1 piece of homework per subject per week. They will have 1 week to complete the assignment. The homework will be set according to a homework timetable and will be set as an ‘assignment’ on the Google Classroom with a due date. The homework needs to be submitted digitally ready for the class teacher to check in the following week’s lesson.
In order to support students and their families we have listed all of the homework timetables on the school website under the ‘home learning’ tab. We have also introduced an optional homework club at lunch time so students can receive support from teachers to complete their homework.
Students must complete their homework assignment before the due date. Failure to complete a homework assignment will result in a same-day referral to the class teacher or department to ensure that homework is completed. Failure to attend the after school homework or failure to complete multiple homeworks will result in a referral to the after school homework clinic for 1 hour the next day. This homework clinic is staffed by Lead Practitioners to ensure that students are supported to complete their homework.
Research suggests that home-learning can have a considerable impact on students’ progress. In the coming weeks we will be rolling out our homework policy to students in other year groups but we have made the decision to prioritise Year 7 in order to support their transition from Primary to Secondary School. We thank you in advance for your support with this initiative and we are grateful for any feedback you may have.
Kind regards,
Ms Susan Olatunbosun | Lead Practitioner
