School Timings Consultation Outcome

Dear Parents/Carers

I am writing to you regarding the outcome of our consultation on our school timings and extension of the school day.

I can confirm that following our consultation period from 23 May – 20 June, we received only twelve comments querying the change to the school day. Therefore 98% of parents/carers have raised no concerns about the extension of the school day from September 2022. We are pleased to say that we will be proceeding with the new school timings from the new academic year as a result of this successful consultation.

I have included feedback points from twelve comments we received:

Parent/carer feedback  Academy response
Can Wednesday half day be changed to a full day of school to avoid the changes to the school day?  Wednesday afternoons are dedicated for professional development of staff. This is standard procedure across all Leigh Academy Trust schools and unfortunately cannot be changed.
This will impact childcare arrangements for my primary children where older siblings collect younger ones  Whilst we are sympathetic to childcare arrangements we also have to meet the DFE requirements for extending the school day.
The extension will impact parent/carer work commitments  As above
How will this impact lunchtimes for students?  There will be two lunch slots as there are currently. There will be no impact apart from a change of time.

Below are the new confirmed timings for the school day.

I also wanted to confirm the outcome regarding the consultation for the Specialist Resource Provision which ran from 14 March – 24 April.   The outcome is looking extremely promising and is likely to go ahead for September 2023 subject to final confirmation from Medway. We look forward to further developing as an inclusive community school and welcoming students to the provision. We will be able to cater for their needs through specialist staff which will also benefit our existing students who will be able to access this support where needed.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support towards the academy. I am sure you are all looking forward to the summer break, as we are. I will write to you again before the holidays with our newsletter and key information for the new academic year.

Kind regards

Numera Anwar
