Scholastic Book Fair

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are thrilled to announce that Strood Academy will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair during the week beginning Monday, 25th November. The book fair will take place in the library and will be open for students to browse a wide range of books during lunch on Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th. This event is an exciting opportunity for our students to discover new stories, explore diverse genres, and find books they would love to read.

Here’s how it will work:

  1. Browsing and Wish Lists: During lunchtime on Monday or Tuesday, students can browse the available books and note any that they’re interested in. Before leaving the library, they must inform Ms. McGirr, our librarian, of the specific book they would like to purchase. They will also complete a Wish List form, which they’ll bring home to share with you. This form will contain the name and details of the book they’ve chosen.
  2. Purchasing Books: Parents can make payments for the selected book on ParentPay. Please ensure payments are completed by Wednesday, 27th November to secure the book for your child.
  3. Book Collection: On Thursday 28th, students whose payments have been received will be able to collect their chosen book from the library during lunch time.

The benefits of reading for pleasure are well-documented and can have a profound impact on academic success. We strongly believe that helping students find books they enjoy can support their overall literacy, improve their reading ages, and ensure they are fully prepared for exams in Year 11. Our aim is for every student to achieve a reading age of at least 15 years and 9 months by Year 11 to maximise their success in their studies.

Scholastic Book Fairs are designed to offer a variety of high-quality and age-appropriate books that spark curiosity and excitement for reading. We hope many students will take advantage of this opportunity to acquire a book they love.

Thank you for your support in encouraging reading at Strood Academy. We look forward to a fantastic Book Fair Week and hope to see our students discover books that inspire them!

Kind regards,
Mrs K Hoare | Lead Practitioner – Literacy
