Dear Parents/Carers
In our ongoing commitment to safeguarding all students at Strood Academy, I am reaching out to inform you about the topics being covered in Personal Development this term. The primary goal of Personal Development is to support the holistic development of young pupils, by focusing on a wide cross-section of skills development.
Personal Development classes, scheduled on a Wednesday Period 5, adhere to the recommended PSHE/RSE curriculum provided by the PSHE Association. This curriculum is structured around three main themes: Health and Wellbeing, Relationships, and Living in the Wider World.
Throughout Module 6, each year group will follow a distinct scheme of work tailored to their developmental stage:
- Year 7: Relationships – Transition to Secondary School
- Year 8: Relationships- Different types of Relationships/Managing relationships
- Year 9: Relationships- Developing Personal Values
- Year 10: Relationships- Recognising Abusive Relationships
- Year 11: GCSE- Intervention Sessions
- Year 12: Skills for Success- Motivation and Organisation
- Year 13: Planning for the Future- Personal Statements and Advocacy
We are more than willing to provide additional information about the various aspects of our Personal Development curriculum. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your child’s college via the Academy’s college email addresses.
Yours faithfully
Mr M. Williams | Assistant Principal, Personal Development Lead
