Dear Parents/Carers,
We are committed to providing your child with a well-rounded education that prepares them for success beyond Strood Academy.
Our Personal Development lessons, held every Wednesday Period 5, align with the PSHE/RSE curriculum from the PSHE Association, covering essential areas of Health and Wellbeing, Relationships, and Living in the Wider World.
Here’s a snapshot of what each year group will be exploring during Module 6:
- Year 7 – Citizenship: Community Learning
- Year 8 – Citizenship: Community Engagement
- Year 9 – Religious Education: World Beliefs
- Year 10 – Heath and Wellbeing: Understanding Abuse, Control & Online Pressures
- Year 11: Focused exam study sessions to support their GCSE preparation.
- Year 12 & 13: Enrichment Programme, designed to enhance their skills and broaden their horizons.
Beyond these core sessions, we’re excited to engage pupils with:
- Safer Internet Day
- World Environment Day Assembly
- Pride Month Assembly
- World Music Week
We encourage you to discuss these events and topics with your child at home to further enhance their learning.
Statutory Guidance Update:
As a secondary academy school we must provide RSE to all pupils as per section 34 of the 2019 Statutory Guidance Document In teaching RSE, we are required by our funding agreements to have regard to guidance issued by the secretary of state as outlined in section 403 of the Education Act 1996. The new guidance (2024) states that pupils should know the world around them, and understand the law on equality and the protected characteristics, including gender reassignment.
However, the guidance is clear that schools should not teach pupils about the contested concept of gender identity. (16 May 2024).

Work Experience:
Following a successful week of work experience just before half-term, our Year 10 pupils have returned with glowing reports from the organisations they partnered with. This positive outcome has us eagerly anticipating the start of Year 9’s planning for their own placements next year.
If you have any questions or require further information about our Personal Development curriculum, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s college via the Academy’s college email addresses.
Yours faithfully,
Mr. M. Williams | Assistant Principal
