Dear Parents/Carers,

We are committed to providing your child with a well-rounded education that prepares them for success beyond Strood Academy.

Our Personal Development lessons, held every Wednesday Period 5, align with the PSHE/RSE curriculum from the PSHE Association, covering essential areas of Health and Wellbeing, Relationships, and Living in the Wider World.

Here’s a snapshot of what each year group will be exploring during Module 5:

  • Year 7- Relationship and Sex Education
  • Year 8- Careers- What are my interests? CV creation
  • Year 9- International Baccalaureate Community Project
  • Year 10- Careers/unifrog and work experience preparation
  • Year 11: Focused exam study sessions to support their GCSE preparation.
  • Year 12 & 13: Enrichment Programme, designed to enhance their skills and broaden their horizons.

Beyond these core sessions, we’re excited to engage pupils with:

  • Police information assemblies
  • The 80th Anniversary of VE Day
  • Year 10 Work Experience

We encourage you to discuss these events and topics with your child at home to further enhance their learning.

Careers Education:

This term, we are continuing to place a strong emphasis on careers education. We will be supporting National Careers Week and helping pupils explore their future options.

  • Please visit the National Careers Week website [https://nationalcareersweek.com/  to learn more and discuss potential career paths with your child.
  • We also encourage you to explore Unifrog, our comprehensive careers platform, together at https://www.unifrog.org/sign-in.
  • In addition Ship Safe Training Group  www.sstg.org , a not-for-profit organisation that supports shipping companies by recruiting and training individuals for careers in the Merchant Navy are holding a careers open day on saturday 10th May between 9.30am and 3pm. They will also arrange an office visit if you are interested and cannot attend the open day by calling 01634 820 820. This event is an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about SSTG and our sponsored training programme. Please see further information  here.
