End of Term Update

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have nearly made it to the end of the academic year and we hope you are all looking forward to a well deserved break over the summer holidays. We wanted to update you with a few key pieces of information in order to support our return to school in September.

End of Term Arrangements and Notices

The summer term ends at 12:15pm on Wednesday 21 July for all students.  The bus company has been alerted of the early school closure and Reception will remain open until 1.00pm.  Students entitled to free school meals will be able to collect a packed lunch from the canteen.

Mass Testing

Before your child’s return to school in September and as per Government guidelines, students will need to take a lateral flow test in school twice. Further information on when your child should attend will be sent on Wednesday in a separate letter. Please note there is no requirement for students to continue testing during the summer holidays.

Collection of Examination Results

A Level results will be available for collection 9am – 10am on Tuesday 10 August

GCSE results should be collected 10am – 10.30am. on Thursday 12 August

Any results not collected on the day will be posted home during the holidays.  If students would like a nominated person to collect results on their behalf, they need to provide written consent or send an email to the Exams Officer, Miss Towes on: exams@stroodacademy.org

Start of the Autumn Term

Our return to school dates are as follows:

  • Wednesday 1 September 2021 – Years 7 and 12 ONLY
  • Thursday 2 September 2021 – Years 7, 8, 9 and 12
  • Friday 3 September 2021 – All Year Groups

Both entrances to school (main gate and Copperhouse Road) will be open for all students to use due to no requirement for children to stay in bubbles.

Structure of School Day

The school day will run promptly from 8:40 arrival until 3:00pm.  Registration will take place at 8:45am during period 1 and it is vitally important that students allow themselves plenty of time to arrive in school and make their way to their first lesson. I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents that from September the Academy will be accessible for students from 8:15am for breakfast in the canteen. Students should NOT be arriving at the Academy before 8.15am as they will not be permitted into the building. Students will be able to purchase breakfast items and small snacks during this time.  In September we will share the list of enrichment after school clubs with you.

Our Reception closes at 4.30pm and please also note that cars are not permitted on site to drop off or pick children up after school

All students will need to keep their current lanyard and ID card. Please note that students must have their ID cards with them at all times.  Students found with defaced cards will be expected to replace them.  Replacement cards are charged at £3.00.  We have arranged for our photographers to be at school the first week of September to take the official school photos which you will be able to purchase.

Uniform and Physical Education Kit

All students must be in full uniform for the first day of term. We are very grateful for the support of parents on this matter, please note we will continue to sanction uniform infringements if these take place. Students who are not in the correct uniform will be placed in the academy’s behaviour for learning unit until the issue is rectified. Hoodies and hooded sweatshirts are not allowed in the academy for health and safety reasons and please note these will be confiscated.. Students may wear a suitable outside coat to and from the academy but these must be removed as they enter the building. It is important to note that extreme haircuts (i.e. lines cut into short hair or non-natural hair colours) and body piercings are prohibited and that students will be sanctioned in the behaviour for learning unit and asked to remove all visible body piercings. Students are allowed one pair of studs; these can be plain silver or plain gold only (no diamonds or coloured stones).   Examples of acceptable earrings can be found on the uniform list below.

Makeup, false tan and false nails are prohibited in school and we appreciate the support from all parents/carers towards the academy on maintaining professional attire for our students. As a reminder please see the attached uniform list  Uniform List

Students are able to access the academy facilities during the day including toilets during break and lunchtime. During lessons some students may require a toilet pass due to medical conditions. Please ensure that if your child fits into this category you will need to provide medical evidence from the doctor for a pass to be issued. Students will not receive a toilet pass without medical evidence from September. This is to avoid a large number of students being unsupervised outside of lessons as part of safeguarding. Existing toilet passes will need to be renewed with new evidence to show they are continued to be required.

The Academy operates a hardship fund to support any family whose children are in receipt of free school meals. Please contact info@stroodacademy.org if you would like to discuss this further in confidence.

Absence Protocol

Student attendance at school is inextricably linked to their progress and children are continued to be encouraged to attend from parents/carers.  We would like to thank you for your support regarding attendance and we recently celebrated with students who had 100% attendance this year. As a reminder, holidays during term time will not be authorised and penalty notices may be issued.

With the exception of Friday 27 August and Tuesday 31 August (staff training), there will be limited office staff available during the summer holidays to assist you should you need it.   Please contact staff by telephone or via email info@stroodacademy.org  Please note your email may not be read until September if you contact staff directly on different addresses due to the summer break.

We would like to wish all families a happy and safe summer holiday and look forward to the next academic year.

Kind Regards,

Mrs N Anwar

Principal
