Dear Parents/Carers
As the Year 9 begins Module 3, we wish to highlight a key aspect of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) – the Community Project.
The IB MYP Community Project offers students a chance to engage in service learning through a meaningful community-focused initiative. It enables them to embody the attributes of the IB Learner Profile and make a positive impact on the community.
Your child will attend tailored Community Project sessions led by their Tutor or the Personal Development teacher. Success in the project requires dedication both at school and at home. Students will receive an online workbook to document their project journey, in addition to other resources needed for the successful execution of the project.
We encourage students to take initiative aligned with their passions and community needs. However, we stress the importance of communication. Before engaging in activities outside school or collaborating with external agencies, students must inform the school and seek permission to ensure safety and guidance throughout the project.
Your cooperation ensures a safe and enriching learning environment. The Community Project is assessed similarly to MYP subjects, with four criteria contributing to an overall MYP grade. Your child will receive details on grading criteria through their Google Classroom, and the project grade will appear on their final Year 9 report.
Additionally, prizes will be awarded for outstanding efforts, and an end-of-year event will celebrate the completion of these projects.
Thank you for your collaboration. If you have any questions, feel free to contact
Yours faithfully
Mr T Lecky | MYP and Personal Development Coordinator
