Chromebook Scheme

Strood Academy Letter image

Dear Parent/Carer

Strood Academy Chromebook Scheme

I am delighted to be able to inform you that we will be distributing a Chromebook to every student in year 7 at Strood Academy. We will be hosting a chromebook distribution day on Thursday 12th September, 2024 from 5pm-6pm.

The device will remain the property of Strood Academy but will be given to your son/daughter to use throughout their time until the end of Year 9. At this time we will recall the device, and provide a new chromebook that will last until year 11. We will also recall the device at appropriate times throughout their school career to run a maintenance check on the device as needed. We believe that having the use of a Chromebook in the academy and being able to take the device home will be invaluable in supporting your son/daughter in their studies this year.

You will have received a care for chromebook letter, which outlines the expectations of use. It will mean that he/she can access all classwork and homework no matter where they are and have full access to the Google Classroom and all other online resources. There is no cost to you the parent, but here are some points that I would ask that you read with your son/daughter and take into consideration:

Student Responsibilities:

  • Students will be expected to bring the Chromebook to the academy each day fully charged for use in lessons.
  • Students will ensure their best endeavours to look after the device and not accessorise or otherwise alter the appearance of the Chromebook in any way. All stickers must remain on the chromebook and must not be removed.
  • Students will be able to continue with online work from home in the case of any periods of absence from the academy.
  • Students should follow the instructions of the teacher, and adhere to the chromebook modes on display Strood Chromebook Modes Poster.pdf .
  • Any and all damage to the Chromebook must be reported on the day of or next academy day.
  • Any intentional damage will result in up to 5 days at the lodge, and pupils will not be able to take their device home. It will be signed out and in everyday.

Parent/Carer Actions:

  • A charger lead will be provided with the Chromebook however this is not covered by the insurance policy so must remain at home. If the charger lead was to become lost or broken it will be necessary for you to purchase a replacement.
  • Ensure your child has a school bag big enough to carry the Chromebook and all the usual school equipment to and from the academy each day.

Next steps:

  • Parent/Carer to read the documentation in the links provided.
  • Parent/Carer will be asked to sign the agreement. Click here to view this agreement. This will have to be signed on the evening.

This agreement will need to be signed by you, the parent, on our distribution day on September 12th, 5pm-6pm.

Please note that the main uses in the classroom will be the Google Suite. For further information and basic training and support please visit https://workspace.google.com/intl/en_uk/training/ As a school we use google documents and forms. It would be beneficial, but not an expectation, if you had a google account https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/27441?hl=en

Yours faithfully
