Bikes Letter

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to inform you of a recent incident regarding bike theft at Strood Academy, which has raised considerable concern within our school community. At the end of last term, we were disheartened to discover that three bicycles had been stolen during the school day. This unfortunate incident has prompted us to take immediate action and we are actively collaborating with Medway Police. All relevant information has been shared with them, including CCTV footage from the time of the theft, in hopes of identifying the perpetrators and preventing similar occurrences in the future. To confirm they were not part of our Strood Academy community.

The stolen bicycles were stored in the bike lock-up store situated near the main front gates. Regrettably, they had not been secured with locks, allowing them to be taken without the need for any locks to be removed. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of ensuring that all bicycles are securely locked when left unattended. While we understand that the school day can be hectic, especially during drop-off and pick-up times, it is crucial that students take the necessary precautions to safeguard their belongings.

In response to this theft, the academy has decided to review the current location and security measures of our bike storage area. We are actively exploring options to enhance the security of this facility so that our students can feel confident about leaving their bicycles safe while engaged in their education. However, I would like to take this opportunity to remind all parents and carers that it is imperative for your child to use a secure lock when bringing their bicycle to school. A robust lock can deter potential thieves and offer peace of mind for both students and parents alike.

If your child inadvertently forgets their lock, I encourage you to instil in them the importance of informing their college team immediately. We are committed to providing assistance and ensuring that a solution is implemented to enable them to securely store their bicycle for the day. We are here to support our students in every aspect of their school life.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter. We appreciate your cooperation in helping to keep our students’ property safe and secure.

Sending best wishes,
Mr Jon Richardson | Principal
