Pupils at Strood Academy will follow a two year Key Stage 3 course which includes all the subjects in the National Curriculum. Subjects taken will include Maths, English, Science, History, Geography, Religious Education, Art, ICT, Drama, Modern Foreign Languages, Physical Education, PSHE, and Learning to Learn.
In all subjects there will be an emphasis on delivering high impact lessons that will make learning exciting and ensure excellent pupil progress.
Pupils will be taught in mixed ability groups except in Maths who will be set according to ability. Parents and pupils will be kept informed about rates of progress by means of six reports each year that will provide both target levels and present attainment levels. Target grades will be given for all subjects and will be based on prior attainment at Key Stage 2. We will aim to help each pupil to exceed this target by making a minimum of two levels of progress by the end of Key Stage 3.
There will be a wide range of opportunities for extended or extra curricular activities during period 6 which starts at 3:15 and runs until 4:15 every school day. These will offer both enjoyable and beneficial experiences for all pupils.
Literacy and numeracy will be key focuses during Key Stage 3. As well as classroom activities aimed at boosting these skills a number of events will take place throughout the year, including parent forums and a numeracy focus day in November.
The views of all pupils are important to the Academy and these can be expressed through the council representatives in each tutor group, who will attend the Whole School Council.
The pastoral care of pupils in Key Stage 3 aims to ensure that all pupils are able to work within a healthy, safe, enjoyable and achievement orientated environment. Form tutors are an important communication link for parents, and will also provide mentoring for all pupils helping ensure they achieve their potential.
We hope to see you in the near future celebrating the success of your son or daughter.
